Austin ISD Renovations at Davis Elementary School

Will Davis Elementary opened its doors in 1992 and over the course of 30 years, the facility has been subject to issues with the original through-wall heat pump systems and difficulties with slab moisture. Erosion and site grading had created problems with moisture infiltrating the slab, causing damage to the flooring throughout the lifetime of the building and required replacement throughout most of the school. Several classrooms required HVAC upgrades; the through-wall heat pumps were removed and replaced with new rooftop units and ductwork, which in turn, required replacement of the acoustic ceiling tile and grid.

Highlight

A large portion of the resilient flooring throughout the campus called for replacement, which created an opportunity to provide updated luxury vinyl tile to breathe new life into the space.  The lobby and cafeteria lent themselves to play with bespoke patterns that accentuated and brightened the spaces.

Design & Construction Facts

Certain areas of the site needed to be re-graded for positive slope away from the building. A new fluid vapor barrier was added to the slab to minimize moisture from accumulating below the new flooring surface.
