City of Leander: Reagan Pump Station and Maintenance Building

Leander is a rapidly growing suburb just north of Austin and part of the Greater Austin metropolitan area. It has become one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States, ranking number one for growth in both 2018 and 2019. With a population of 59,202, comprising 18,505 households—representing a 20% increase since the 2020 census—city officials now face the challenge of meeting the rising demand for pump stations and maintenance facilities. Fuse has positioned itself to be a key resource for city development, having recently completed the design of the city’s new Regan Pump Station. This 4,900 SF facility is designed to serve 15,000 households and includes 2 maintenance buildings to support operations.

Highlight

With Leander’s rapid growth in mind, Fuse made strategic design choices that leveraged the site’s natural resources. For example, rooftop skylights were added to flood the lab room with natural light—reducing electricity use and allowing resources to be redirected toward future expansion. Thoughtful adjustments like this are found throughout the site, ensuring flexible, adaptable layouts that optimize long-term potential. As Leander continues to evolve, public utility projects like this will be designed to support the city’s ongoing development.

Design & Construction Facts

For the Leander pump station, our team embraced the city’s Design Standards as a creative framework, ensuring full compliance with guidelines like Comcheck energy performance, façade articulation, and approved material palettes. We turned these standards into design opportunities, incorporating native limestone cladding that echoes the textures and tones of Central Texas. The result is a facility that feels rooted in place—blending into the neighborhood with quiet confidence while reinforcing Leander’s evolving urban identity. With construction set to begin in June, the project is on track for substantial completion in just eight months, delivering a facility that grows with the city it serves.
