Austin ISD- Rodriguez Elementary School MEP Renovations

Renovations at Rodriguez Elementary School address critical facility needs across the campus, enhancing both functionality and student support spaces. The project includes the conversion of an existing classroom into a dedicated Mental Health Suite with a counselor office and interior upgrades such as new flooring, ceilings, lighting, and paint. Early childhood environments were also improved through the renovation of four Pre-K classrooms, incorporating new casework and countertops, as well as removing outdated wall mounted televisions to increase usable storage and teaching space.

Highlight

A major component of the project focused on mechanical system upgrades, including the replacement of aging rooftop units serving the cafeteria and gym. These improvements enhance indoor comfort, reduce long-term maintenance demands, and extend the life of the school’s infrastructure. Additional efforts addressed indoor environmental quality, including the investigation and correction of sewer gas odors in the art classroom and adjacent corridors.

Design & Construction Facts

Roofing improvements were strategically phased to align with the broader renovation scope. Initial work included targeted repairs to accommodate new mechanical penetrations and structural supports, while additional repairs and partial replacement were deferred to a subsequent project phase.
