Richard A. Anderson Texas State Veterans Home

The Texas General Land Office enlisted Orcutt Winslow Architects to design a 120-bed skilled nursing facility for Texas Veterans in Houston. Fuse provided QA/QC services throughout the project, ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment with the design vision. The facility was designed as four smaller communities arranged around central group spaces, creating a more intimate and home-like environment for residents. Each community featured its own living area, kitchen, laundry, and outdoor porch.

Highlight

Fuse participated in design meetings and conducted drawing reviews at critical phases. The facility design incorporated the requirements of TDADS (Texas Department of Aging and Disability Standards) and TVLB (Texas Veterans Land Board). A code compliance consultant, who is also a veteran, provided valuable insight and perspective on the future residents of the new home.

Design & Construction Facts

Due to the impacts of Hurricane Harvey, the project encountered several setbacks that required careful coordination and flexibility. Working closely with the design team, Fuse helped navigate these challenges smoothly to keep the project on track. Updated deliverables were developed, and the schedule was strategically adjusted to ensure the successful delivery of a substantial, high-quality facility for Texas Veterans.
